Ribfest Concert Harris Riverfront Park, Huntington WV, Friday 8/15/03 |
|
I’m Larry and today I’ll
be your guide. I thought I’d start with the Huntington Ribfest that we performed
on Friday night, August 15th. It started off very hot, and then
of course, came the rain.
We finished setting up and sound checked in the rain. Finally the rain
subsided and we
were able to perform at 9:00. It was our new drummer’s first job with us. T-Bone aced it like a pro he is. Gina sang marvelous and looked stunning. Bub & myself were cooking and all over the stage. The first performance went excellent and it was a good turnout considering the dreaded rain. Then it was intermission.Everyone was hot and sweating but very pumped up. That’s when disaster almost struck. I was coming down the steps and slipped and fell into the rail, catching my arm and striking my back and looking like a klutz. After the usual barrage of are you alright? To which I answered “yes” but really meaning “Oww!” I got down to the bottom and was asked if a group of really plowed girls could get up on stage. I answered no. Now, normally I’d let a group of cute girls get on stage, but we were filming a video and that wouldn’t work for us on this special night. They would’ve had to go on tour with us if they were in our video. The second show really smoked and people were screaming and dancing all over. There were a group of girls standing right in front of the stage for the whole show and they were having a lot of fun. It was a special night indeed. Hey, what can I say? when it’s right – you know it!We would like to thank Judy Jennings, Sharon Hodge and Russell T at WKEE, Heath Brown and all the volunteers from the Big Sandy Huntington Arena, Brian Myers, Mike & Tracy VanHoose, all the crew from MegaZound Sound and Lighting and Front of House Soundman, Jim Raines for making this a special event. A Big thank-you to all the fans who came out to see the show. A special thanks goes to Chris Rowlands for believing in us, Chris Withrow and Ken Phillips who loved the ribs by-the-way, and our new partner FinnRow Entertainment Ltd. for their sponsorship of the band. Thanks and a tip of the hat to all of you!Until next time, this is Larry and the Convertible Blondes wishing you all the best and remember to support live music. Take care and keep the faith. Larry |
